FLuid Optimisation in Emergency LAparotomy

Here is a fantastic opportunity to be involved at a regional or local level on this fully funded NIHR multi-centre randomised controlled trial.

The Fluid Optimisation and Emergency Laparotomy trial (FLO-ELA) is a large pragmatic trial to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of peri-operative cardiac output guided haemodynamic therapy in patients aged 50 years and over undergoing major emergency bowel surgery. Please see this letter or the website for further information on the study.

The first wave of 20 sites are opening over the next few months, expanding to 100 centres in the next year.

They are initially looking for trainees to help coordinate trainees regionally both within General Surgery and Anaesthetics. We have centres currently opening in North West, West Midlands, South West, Wessex, Thames Valley, KSS, East of England, Wales, Yorkshire and London.

If you are interested in either coordinating trainees in your region, being the trainee representative at your site or simply recruiting to the trial, then please email trainees@floela.org for further information.
