Validation of Acute Pancreatitis scORe

Both Imre’s and Ranson’s criteria over diagnose patients as having ‘severe’ acute pancreatitis. The Royal London Hospital HPB unit has designed a new scoring system based on the recommendations of the Revised Atlanta Classification which assesses a patient’s need for admission to critical care.

Our new scoring system has been piloted and was shown to accurately predict which patients required critical care admission. The aim of this next phase is to validate it in a prospective multicentre audit.
